Fitness Motivation
Why do we do anything in life? There's always some sort of motivation behind every action we take. If we lack motivation, what will keep us going? I've been consistently working out for about three years now. I can definitely say that working out is a habit and lifestyle.
One question Im asked more than any is how I stay motivated? Im constantly finding motivators and clinging to them. How do you find a motivator? and what is that? I cant speak for you, but I know what some of mine are. They can change from week to week. It doesn't matter, as long as you have at least one at all times.
"Comparison is the thief of joy." A very true and wise statement when your comparing yourself to others. PLEASE DO NOT THAT!!! however.....please do compare your old self to the self you are becoming! My biggest motivator, is comparing where I was to where I am. Take progress pictures regularly. It seems awkward, unflattering and perhaps embarrassing to expose yourself on camera, I keep these photos in a secret picture folder app on my phone so that no one has to accidentally stubble upon these and because I don't want progress to be at the front of my mind. Progress takes time. Its good to stop looking everyday for it, and just keep on keeping on.
I remember taking a progress pic my first day back at the gym, and then comparing it about two months later. I that visible progress (albeit small) absolutely fueled me to continue. I love my before and afters! do this for yourself! the "after" picture is certainly not the final result, but its progress!!!!!
Second biggest motivator for me, the way I feel. The "feel good endorphins" that are released during a workout are the real deal! That pick me up good feeling is better than any coffee or 5 hour energy I've ever consumed. One of the best natural mood lifters out there. Long term feel good benefits are countless. Overall better health!
My other motivators?
Busy gyms. I enjoy the energetic vibe others put off. I love being somewhere with others who share a mutual mindset and interest.
New Workout Clothes/shoes, or clothes that you feel good in! a lot of workout clothes are unflattering, spend a little money to find clothes that make you look and feel good while you work out.
Find your own motivators, It could be a certain song, a new routine, a workout buddy, an upcoming event or vacation.... it could be something weird, who cares! Cling to it and stay motivated! What keeps you motivated? Let us know in the comments!
